2008 Skoll World Forum

Social Edge blogs the fifth annual Skoll World Forum at the Saïd Business School in Oxford, March 26-28, 2008.

2008 skoll world forum

The 2008 Skoll World Forum has wrapped up, but you can still virtually attend this pivotal social entrepreneurship conference by visiting Social Edge.  A team of Skoll Scholars blogged every session and a roving group of three Berkeley Bloggers will brought home the bottom line from this year’s forum.

The 2008 Skoll World Forum sessions were centered around the theme of Social Entrepreneurship: culture, context and social change.  If social entrepreneurship is truly about “changing the world”, then what are the cultural and contextual barriers that social entrepreneurs need to overcome to create sustainable change in the areas where they work? To what extent does culture accelerate or inhibit change, innovation, and scale? How can social entrepreneurs best evaluate the contexts in which they operate? What are the opportunities and models of success? And, at the most practical level, what mindsets and tools are needed for social entrepreneurs to work successfully across different cultures and contexts?

Check out the amazing agenda below.  We have pulled together information on each of the topics so you can do some background reading on the topics of interest to you. We have video of some of the sessions, with more coming soon!

Unfortunately, the Skoll World Forum was oversubscribed and registration is closed. However, you can still virtually attend through Social Edge. Social Edge will have bloggers covering every session and three additional bloggers reviewing and highlighting what they discover throughout the Forum. Additionally there will be streaming video of sessions. More details on the agenda and the team of bloggers will be posted soon. So, although you cannot be there in person, you can keep you carbon footprint small and simply log in to Social Edge and follow along with all the sessions.

"JUST THE RIGHT ATTITUDE(JTRA)

A GREAT CAUSE NOT JUST BECAUSE ,BUT FOR A CAUSE ! http://www.jtra.org/index.htm

My fellow bloggers and net heads this is a call to the masses, there is a very honorable cause going on in New Orleans That is doing some really great work that should be commended and applauded. (JTRA) is a charitable Organization/food bank that is going above and beyond it's duty to help the citizens in the New Orleans and surrounding area's, and I would like you to take a few minutes out of your busy schedule and take a look at some of the great work their doing. The site is located at: http://www.jtra.org/index.htm

WHAT WE DO - THE NUMBERS: JTRA' s Kitchen serves hot lunches to the community free of charge since they are still trying to rebuild , and get their homes , and lives together.

In 2007 JTRA distributed 4.187 million pounds of food. We distributed groceries to 252,194 families for a total 517,800 individuals. We cooked and served 127,181 hot meals in 2007.
