Rapid Hurricane Response: Haiti
This summer has been a tragic time for Haiti. The country, the poorest in the Western hemisphere, was already suffering from the global food crisis. In August and September 2008, three consecutive hurricanes – Gustav, Hanna and Ike – devastated the island nation.

November 25th is International Violence Against Women Day. The UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) has collected over 1.2 million signatures of people calling for global action to end violence against women through the Say NO to Violence Against Women campaign.
