ePhilanthropy Foundation Endorsement
Dot Org URL Registration Should Include Validation
by ePhilanthropy Foundation

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which oversees global Internet addressing, has announced that 11 companies and organizations from around the world have applied to operate the DOT ORG domain.

The ePhilanthropy Foundation offers the following endorsement to groups seeking to manage this important global address.

August 2, 2002

Dear ICANN, interested parties and the non-commercial constituency members:

On behalf of the ePhilanthropy Foundation and its international board of 29 Trustees, I am proud to offer our support to the concept of non-commercial validation as a way to improve the integrity the .org URL. We believe that promotion of a validation program will help build public confidence in making online philanthropic transactions and that validation is a critical component in growing this public confidence.

The ePhilanthropy Foundation is nonprofit organization devoted to fostering the secure, private, efficient and ethical use of the Internet for Philanthropic purposes. The ePhilanthropy Foundation serves multiple constituencies, most importantly, non-profit organizations worldwide and the general public.

The ePhilanthropy Foundation has provided online and offline educational services to more than 3000 individuals representing over 1200 organizations located throughout North America, Australia, the United Kingdom and South Africa. The Foundation was founded in 2000 by a coalition of nonprofit and for profit organizations dedicated its mission of fostering the ethical use of the Internet for philanthropic purposes.

We believe the validation concept is critical to ensuring that the .org registry is operated in a way that is responsive to the needs, concerns and views of the global nonprofit and philanthropic Internet community.

Sincerely,

Mr. Theodore R. Hart, ACFRE
