The essential nature of the Internet itself is interoperability and our sector is still a very
long way off from fully exploiting that nature. We have some interesting organizational
rivers to ford before that happens. Maybe the articles in this month's journal can help us
do that. I'm pleased to include Bruce Dixon's take on network neutrality, the heart of the
interoperability of the Net. The Berkman Center's Roadmap for Open ICT Ecosystems
could be a critical guide to those who want to think beyond the borders of their programs
and organizations. Nick Gleason and I agree about the importance of open standards and
I'm glad to see him apply that thinking to the topic of open source software. And finally,
Isaac Garcia takes two different looks at another bulwark of interoperability, electronic
mail.
This month's Quicksheet is on the subject of "building on higher ground" or about taking
an asset based approach to organizational change initiatives, such as new technology or
