Aug. 11th, 2005:
We're hitting our stride with the Journal. Our subscriptions are steadily growing. We're streamlining our production systems. We're finding out that there are smart, articulate people who are eager to contribute content. We hope you're enjoying this as much as we are.
This month opens with an article by me, Michael Gilbert, on the subject of Nonprofit Weblogs. You may not know this, but Nonprofit Online News is tied as the oldest weblog still in production on the web. In the last few years, this publishing model has finally gained the attention of nonprofit organizations. This article is an overview of the challenges and opportunities presented by this. |
We have fantastic contributions by other authors. Michael Stein and John Kenyon offer us a thoughtful survey of "A Decade of Online Fundraising". Ruth McCambridge interviews Eli Pariser, the Executive Director of MoveOn PAC. Andrea Saveri, Howard Rheingold, Alex Soojung-Kim Pang, and Kathi Vian are working toward "A New Literacy of Cooperation" in two parts: "Cooperation: A Map to Think With" presents a powerful framework in which to develop new ideas. And "Organizational Choices: Seven Ways to Tune Up for Cooperation" is both practical and visionary. Finally, Laura Quinn's "Branding Your Organization through Your Website" will no doubt give you ideas for both long term and for immediate implementation on your web site.
As with every month, we have 34 resources, organized into 31 categories for your reference convenience. We've compiled the month's classifieds announcements and, for the bibliophiles, we have six book reviews. Finally, we are continuing our tradition of one page guides with this month's Quicksheet on the topic of Managing Permission. |
