It's humbling to realize that Jim Fruchterman, founder of Benetech and relentless social entrepreneur, was just in a workshop of mine. He just won a MacArthur Fellowship. I look forward to reading the books he writes in the next few years.
Joseph Novak and Alberto Cañas of the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition have written an excellent guide to The Theory Underlying Concept Maps and How to Construct Them (also available as a high quality PDF). Full of great examples, the paper looks at the foundations, practices, and tools for using concept mapping for knowledge management and learning.
