International Blog Day 2006

In response to a call from Global Voices and in honor of International Blog Day 2006, I've answered a few questions about myself as a blogger and about Nonprofit Online News, including: Why did you start blogging? What do you blog about? Do you blog in your first language? What motivates you to keep blogging? What do your friends and family think? And does your boss know you have a blog?

Aggregating Grants Information

One of the most interesting outcomes of foundations putting their grants online as RSS feeds will be the ability of third parties to aggregate that information in new and interesting ways. Using both a standard micro-format and an open tag driven folksonomy, you could learn all kinds of interesting things, including who is making technology grants. That's one of the categories of funding that's very hard to find because it's not typically how such grants are classified in the single-item taxonomy available in the current workflow. The Gilbert Center is working with N-TEN, the Innovation Funders Network and the Community Technology Foundation of California to advance this idea and the current edition of N-TEN Connect has an example of what such an aggregator would look like.
