My trip last year to South Africa and the SANGONeT Conference (to which I am returning next week) was an inspiration to me on many levels. One of them is the breadth of the political and social analysis that I found among the NGOs. In a Democracy Now interview with South African Journalist Allister Sparks who addresses the issue of wiretapping and torture, under apartheid and George Bush. It's available in both transcript and audio format and I highly recommend it to anyone who is concerned about the eroding foundations for civil society and its organizations.

| African Blog Mentoring Project |

They have only just gotten started, but as I prepare for my own trip to South Africa next week, I am encouraged to see such resources as the African Blog Mentoring Project. Right now, it's a pilot project aimed at Nigerian women. Given the peer support nature of blogging, I think a tight focus is a smart idea.

| A Guide to Email Triage |

In his series on email practices at Lifehacker, Keith Robinson presents a guide to email triage. (The concept of triage is a powerful one in many contexts besides the emergency room.) His core recommendations include: (1) E-mail response is very important. (2) Making the effort. (3) Set yourself up for success. And (4) the “always clean” process. His general tips and observations are also very useful.
