It was five years ago that the police rioted outside my home in Seattle during the World Trade Organization protests. That day was a turning point in the Alternative (sometimes called Anti-) Globalization Movement, a movement that has since become, from my perspective, the most important global movement of our time.
In a move that bodes ill for any nonprofit buying advertising time on any issue where an organization disagrees with George W. Bush, it seems that CBS and NBC have refused to accept ads from the United Church of Christ, in which the denomination tries to demonstrate its inclusiveness. The reason cited by CBS: "the fact the Executive Branch has recently proposed a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, this spot is unacceptable for broadcast."
