In my talks, I often refer to the "ecology" of nonprofit organizations. This reflects my belief that it is extremely practical and powerful to regard organizations as living systems. It also reflects my value system. Many of these ideas are well captured in the book The Ecology of Freedom, by Murray Bookchin , which touches on issues of justice, technology, and the organic nature of social organizations.
