| having fun |
I'm a big fan of Bernie DeKoven, who understands a lot of things about how people work together, including a thing or two about having fun.

| E-Donor's Bill of Rights |
The Association of Professional Fundraisers is authoring an E-Donor's Bill of Rights. It looks solidly founded on a deep respect for the permission granted to a nonprofit by its supporters. Do you have a framework for managing this online?

| Technology Grant News |
Technology Grant News publishes information on technology funding opportunities. Ironically, they have decided to use the articifial barrier of publishing in paper format to allow them to charge a hefty annual subscription fee. Might even be worth it, but I'm tired of the tactic.

| charging for online content |
Jane Black looks at the narrow range of options where charging for online content might work. Personally, I think some of the major issues are (1) publishers are charging too much (the jump from free to $59 a year is huge, especially when added up over many sites for a typical consumer), (2) they haven't built sufficient trust with their subscribers, and (3) they don't give people enough options (though it looks like Salon will).

| Sean In The Middle |
Like many of my readers, I was one of those kids that got picked on in school. In Sean In The Middle, Jonathan Katz looks at how one school is treating a kid that responded to a group of bullies -- they expelled him. I shook with anger on reading it.

| Intranets Save Time - But for Whom? |
In Intranets Save Time - But for Whom?, Jakob Nielsen weighs in on the subject of usability for private networks. If he is right that $10 billion a year is being wasted, then as much as a billion of it may be by nonprofits. My experience confirms this. Most nonprofit intranets are built from the top down and are impenetrable.

| The Gilbert Email Manifesto |
Nonprofits are wasting money on websites when they could be investing in email. Our latest feature unleashes a rant that has been building up for two years now. So it's about time that I went ahead and published The Gilbert Email Manifesto!

| The Semantic Web |
Scientific American looks at The Semantic Web, Tim Berners-Lee's vision for the next generation of web content. You will be seeing examples of the Semantic Web here at Nonprofit Online News. We embrace the vision of interoperability and network computing that this represents.

| DOT ORG Newsletter |
Marc Osten and Michael Stein continue to publish excellent hands on advice about nonprofits and the Internet. Now they are publishing the DOT ORG Newsletter, which appropriately tackles the issue of nonprofit electronic newsletters. Of course I have a bias and I have to say I'm disappointed that they didn't review Social Ecology's DonorLink, which is easily the most powerful and extensible tool available for sending highly customized, permission based content to large numbers of nonprofit stakeholders.

| GrantSAT |
The GrantSAT (the Grant Proposal Self Assessment Tool) provides assessment criteria for many aspects of a proposal. A good complement to a proposal library.

I mentioned the other day that there are some changes coming at Nonprofit Online News. Just a little heads up: (1) People have been asking for years how they can support the news service and we are finally going to have a way to do that. (No, we are not going to be forcing any advertising on you.) (2) There will be an expanded set of ways (of both means and frequency) in which you can receive your news. (3) We will be adding new departments and types of news. And (4) we will be creating several new ways to find past news items and linked resources that are of interest to you.

| our first month |
Nonprofit Online News was launched in April of 1997. We are a hundred years old in Internet years, or something like that. There were a total five news items in all of our first month. It's been four very interesting years. Now, stay tuned for changes....

| Nonprofitabletech |
It's an auspicious launch date for Nonprofitabletech! These guys seem to have what it takes to "dominate" the nonprofit sector and I sure wouldn't want to be up against them. You better check this out....
