Nonprofit Online News is one of the world's most respected sources of news, information, and opinion for the online nonprofit community. It provides a stream of tightly edited, well annotated news and resources related to emerging issues in the nonprofit world, with a particular emphasis on communication and new technology. You may read the news in several forms: on the web site, in daily and weekly email editions, and in an RSS feed. Nonprofit Online News is a project of The Gilbert Center and has been in continuous publication since April 1997.
On the front page of this site, Nonprofit Online News follows the weblog model of short, readable items delivered on a regular basis, there is a free email edition of the news provided to our subscribers (at either daily or weekly rates), and there is an archive of all our past news items kept on this site as well. Because we are a news organization and not a directory, we do not maintain old links.

Publications
As part of our organizational and community learning process, we are committed to publishing as much of our exploration, resources, questions, and answers as we can. So far, we do this in the form of some periodicals, online books, articles, and reports.
Publications For Sale
We regularly produce publications for sale. Each one is a collection of articles, quicksheets, and many annotated resources that have been organized into dozens of categories to make it easy for you to find the ones that are most relevant to your work. (Read More Here)
Nonprofit Online News Journal
Nonprofit Online News Journal is a monthly electronic journal published by The Gilbert Center and Nonprofit Online News. Each edition has original and reprinted articles addressing cutting edge issues of the online nonprofit world, handy tools in the form of Quicksheets (which can be immediately applied to your work), short book reviews by Michael Gilbert, and dozens of hand picked annotated resources organized into practical nonprofit categories. Feature Articles
Feature Articles are published from time to time, on the Nonprofit Online News site. This is where The Email Manifesto was first published for example, although it has since been republished dozens of times elsewhere. We maintain a historical list, including controversial pieces about war, the nonprofit sector, and more. As a subscriber to Nonprofit Online News you will receive announcements about new feature articles as they get published. You can also order free copies of some of these in PDF format, if you like. (See List Here)
Free PDFs
You may order free PDF copies of a number of our critical articles and reports.
"The Best of Nonprofit Online News" comes out early each year and is a PDF of the most valuable annotated resources of the previous year.
"A Civil Society Library: Book Reviews and Recommendations" - Michael Gilbert started writing book reviews in 2001 because he was often being asked for recommendations when traveling and speak at conferences. We've taken the time to compile those reviews -- all 125 of them -- and several book related articles into a free publication.
"Readers' Top Thirty Books", and "Readers' Favorite News Sources". These are based upon a survey of the readers of Nonprofit Online News. In this survey we asked where else they get news regularly and what the best, good old fashioned, books are that they've read recently.
And as mentioned before, a selection of our most popular feature articles are also available as PDFs that you can order here for free. (Order free PDFs)
Research Reports
Disconnected: The First Nonprofit Email Survey reports the results of our survey of over 900 nonprofit organizations and their use of email.
Nonprofit SiteAnalyzer - These original, ground breaking reports are available online. They cover 1) The Vitality of Children and Youth Web Sites, 2) The Interactivity of Environmental Web Sites, 3) The Accessibility of Disabilities Sites.
Our publication schedule is accelerating and we look forward to distributing a number of new ground breaking opinion pieces, research reports, and manuals in the coming year. Please sign up for Nonprofit Online News to receive first notice of new publications.
Reprint Permission
We have rather liberal policies in regard to reprints, but we do have guidelines and requirements, and you must get permission from us first. Please contact us if you would like to reprint any of our content.
